It is a tradition to give
wedding gifts to a newly married couple. The gifts are given to
given the couple a head start in their married life.
Wedding gifts can be sent to the couple as soon
as the invitation to the wedding is received. Most couples
register at department stores or online for items such as
china, glassware, special cooking utensils, and so on. An
invitation to a wedding or the reception means that a gift
should be given whether or not you attend. The gift does not
have to be extremely expensive but it should be in good taste.
The amount you spend is dependent on your relationship with the
family and your budget.
A bridal shower may be given by the bride's
friends prior to the wedding. If you attend the shower,
you should take a gift. It is not necessary to send a gift
if you can not attend the shower. Bridal showers usually
have themes which makes gift selection easier. The theme
may be an interest of the bride or groom such as a sport
or if their honeymoon travel plans are known, it can be
based on that.
Wedding gifts are also extended to members of
the wedding party. Brides give gifts to their attendants and
the groom gives gifts to their groomsmen.
Bridal registries make it easier to find a gift
if you do not particularly like to shop. The gift you give does
not have to be one listed on the registry. It can be something
that is of particular interest to the couple which will make it
a more memorable gift.
