January
January 1 - New Year's
Day
January 1 - Bonza Bottler Day - The day was
created by Elaine Fremont in 1985. She wanted a day each
month to celebrate. The days are celebrated when the
number of the day is the same as the month and when the
number of the month, the number of the day, and the last
number of the year are the same. Elaine died in a car
accident in 1995. Her sister, Gail Berger, has taken
over. Bonza Bottler Day is celebrated in many parts of the
world and clubs have been formed. The day can be celebrated
with a party but you can also make it a special occasion
such as dinner out with friends. Their mascot is a friendly
groundhog.
January 8 - Midwife's Day or Women's Day in
Greece - This day is celebrated each year to honor midwives and
all women. Women spend their day doing what they want while the
men take care of the children and do the housework. This is a
great day for flowers or a special celebration for the woman in
your life.
January 15 - Birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
- Celebrated on the third Monday of January.
January 16 - Appreciate a Dragon Day - The day is an
opportunity to promote literacy among school
children. Children can show their appreciation of
dragons by reading a book or creating a drawing. If you know
someone who loves dragons, here is the perfect day for a
"just because" occasion.
January 1-31 - Family Fit Lifestyle Month - This is the
time when you and your family can start a lifestyle change
to healthy living by reducing fats, sugar, and salt in your
diet. It is a time when you can teach your children about
nutrition. Make a start in January that will continue
throughout the year. You can also make this a time when the
family starts to exercise together.
January 1-31 - National Hot Tea Month - This is
a celebration of a popular beverage. Do you know a tea lover?
This is a perfect time to give a special gift of tea or invite
them over for tea.
January 1-31 - National Mailorder Gardening Month -
This celebration is sponsored by the Mail Order Gardening
Association. January is a winter month and cold in most
areas of the country. It is the perfect time to spend
looking through mail order gardening catalogs to find those
special plants you are going to need for your garden.
Perfect timing to present your favorite gardener with something special.
Second Monday in January - Organize Your Home Day - The day to
start getting rid of the clutter in your home. As a special
gift to mom, kids can clean their rooms and get rid of
unwanted items. Dad can clean the garage and help mom to get
rid of the clutter in other areas of the home.
