February 1 - Bubble Gum Day - Bubble gum day is
celebrated in many schools. It is a day when kids can
actually chew gum in glass. Many schools use as a
fundraiser. If kids donate 50 cents to a charity selected by
the school, they get to chew bubble gum all day. Contests
are held to see who can blow the biggest bubble. Give your
bubble gum lover and it does not have to be a kid, a special
box of their favorite today.
February 1 - National Wear Red Day - National Wear
Red Day is sponsored by the American Heart Association and
focuses on women with heart diseases. Give your special lady
something red for the day.
February 2 - Bonza Bottler Day - The day was created
by Elaine Fremont in 1985. She wanted a day each month to
celebrate. The days are celebrated when the number of
the day is the same as the month and when the number of the
month, the number of the day, and the last number of the
year are the same. Elaine died in a car
accident in 1995. Her sister, Gail Berger, has taken
over. Bonza Bottler Day is celebrated in many parts of the
world and clubs have been formed. The day can be celebrated
with a party but you can also make it a special occasion
such as dinner out with friends. Their mascot is a friendly
groundhog.
February 2 - Groundhog Day -If the groundhog
sees his shadeow when he emerges, there will be six more weeks
of winter.
February 9 - Golden Dragon Parade and Chinese New Year
Festival - Each year the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in
Los Angeles presents this event as a Chinese New Year celebration. There is a
parade and entertainment for both adults and children as
well as food and vendor booths. If you live on the East
Coast or in the Midwest, this would make a nice getaway.
Otherwise, take your favorite person to dinner at their
favorite Chinese restaurant.
February 14 - Ferris Wheel Day - Birthday of
the inventor of the ferris wheel, George Washington Gale
Ferris. Take a friend, your family, and your kids to their
favorite amusement park and ride all day.
February 14 - Valentine Day - One of the most
romantic days of the year. Do something special for your loved
one. Make it something unexpected.
Feburary 1-28 (29) - American Heart Month - Since 1964,
February has been known as American Heart Month by
proclamation of the President.
February 1-28 (29) - Fabulous Florida Strawberry Month -
February is harvesting month for strawberries in Florida.
Strawberries dipped with chocolate make a great Valentine
Day gift.
February 1-28 (29) - National Black History Month - Founded
by Carter G. Woodson, the celebration started as week in
1926. Since 1976, it has been celebrated for a month. It is
a celebration of the contribution of African Americans in
this country and in Canada. Books on African American
history are a great gift for children and adults.
Second Saturday in February - Pro Sports Wives Day - This day is in
recognition of the wives of professional athletes. Are you a
golfer, skier, tennis player? Do you spend your weekends
watching football, basketball, baseball games and golf
tournaments? Why not recognize your sports widow on this
day?
