Birthday

Our birthday is unique to each of us. On that day, we are the center of attention in our family and our friends remember us.

In ancient times, Romans celebrated the birthday of the gods. Festivals, parades, and gladiator events were held in their honor. Mortals were not encouraged to celebrate their birthday. The tradition of the birthday cake was introduced in Germany. The cakes were baked with tokens inside of them to symbolize an upcoming event in the recipient's life.

The date of our birthday symbolizes not only the day we were born into this world but each year it symbolizes the journey we take to fulfill our life. Many people say they do not want a special fuss made on that day. But, we all Birthdayappreciate it when someone remembers with a card or a phone call.

Birthday parties are a tradition that begins with the first year of a child's birth. As children get older, the birthday party becomes an anticipated event. Many have themes. Some are held at home. Others may be held at school. The centerpiece of the party is the birthday cake. And through the years, the decorated cake with a specific theme that differs from the year before is an exciting part of the celebration.

Certain milestones are celebrated such as the sixteenth and twenty-first birthday. Special parties may be given for children who reach this age. Girls generally have a sweet sixteen party.

Giving a gift on this day, as with any other occasion, is to know what recipient's interest. Your thoughtfulness on this day will make anyone's birthday a memorable event.
